Objectifs et capacités de apprenant.es

Work with a team of advanced undergraduate learners at Boston University's Kilachand Honors College who are currently taking a research seminar in antiracism. Learners will be working on a semester-long project-based experience in which they research a problem or inequity that could benefit from antiracist interventions and develop an action/engagement plan, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Throughout their project, teams of learners will:

  1. analyze research and data about racial inequity and racial equity with regard to current problems and policies;
  2. pose specific research questions to help add to the body of knowledge about the current and/or historical dimensions of racism in one or more topic areas;
  3. gather, interpret, and use data and evidence to make an argument and draw conclusions for interventions/solutions;
  4. analyze the relevance of identities, racist/antiracist ideas, and implicit bias to their own approaches to the underlying problem.

Exemples de projets

Learners in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

For example, in a past semester of this course, teams of learners:

  • studied the pre-med curriculum at a local university, and students' perceptions of it, to make recommendations for the inclusion of culturally competent learning;
  • surveyed local elementary school art teachers and proposed antiracist and inclusive art education initiatives;
  • researched microaggressions experienced by BIPOC individuals working in computer science, and compared these to the experiences of white and BIPOC students majoring in STEM.

Learners come from a wide variety of majors, from education to data sciences, and are a diverse and driven group of students looking to apply their knowledge to a real-world problem in order to further their learning. We are very flexible in helping define the particular experience with your organization.
