Virtual Work Term Opportunity

Bring on one or more students from Thompson Rivers University in the marketing program to work virtually, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the work term period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students are available for work terms starting May 1 – August 30, 2020 with a flexible start date up to July 1, 2020.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will initially occur virtually. And we request that students complete a minimum of 150 hours either full time or part time.

We request that some form of compensation is provided to the student. We are seeking paid experience via stipend, honorarium or hourly pay but are open to discussing unpaid opportunities as well. Please contact Jamie Noakes for access to wage subsidy grants.

Exemples de projets

Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the work term, and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.

TRU Marketing students can complete the following core marketing functions:

  1. Discuss the importance of marketing to a business enterprise in terms of the development, pricing, promotion and distribution of its products and services.
  2. Analyze the effect that psychological, social and cultural factors have on consumer behaviour and how this influences marketing decision making.
  3. Develop a market research plan to analyze the business environment and consumer and business-to-business behaviour using appropriate primary and secondary data sources.
  4. Segment different target markets and successfully position products and services in these segments under varying competitive scenarios.
  5. Examine the financial implications of marketing decisions.
  6. Appraise different ethical concerns in marketing.
  7. Formulate marketing plans to address business problems and opportunities, both broadly and in a variety of specialized areas of marketing.
  8. Integrate appropriate marketing strategies to grow and sustain the value of an organization’s brands.
  9. Apply marketing principles in a professional capacity.

Project examples that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Post COVID marketing plans
  • Market Analysis (Could include volume, potential clients, potential growth)
  • Competitive analysis (SWOT, client base, pricing)
  • Social Media audit
  • Strategic marketing plan
