Virtual Project Opportunity:

Bring on one or more student/(s) from Fanshawe College in the Law Clerk Co-op Endorsed Diploma to conduct a program-related project/Co-op based experience. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the term, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

The Law Clerks Co-op work term is sequenced for a 4 and 8 month Co-op. Students are available to engage in an employer-lead project/Co-op as early as January 6, 2025 and can continue as late as April 25, 2025.

Full-time hours or slightly less is required and will be dependent on project scope and student availability.

Student co-ops can occur in-person, virtually or a hybrid and will count towards a co-op credit.

Co-ops must be remunerated.

Our students are eager to put into practice what they have learned about the role of a law clerk, improve their professional demeanor, learn about diversity and ethics, prepare litigation documents, assist with e-discovery processes, draft corporate/commercial documentation, complete family law financial statements, and learn about administering estates, drafting leases and contracts.

Additionally, students conduct legal research, search titles and process real estate transactions.

Our law clerk students are capable of the following tasks:

  1. Support the needs of clients and legal professionals through the use of accurate terminology and professional communication strategies, both orally and in writing;
  2. Complete all work within routine and unexpected time lines and limitation periods within the legal environment;
  3. Use current and relevant electronic and print resources, within the legal environment, to conduct legal research, to assist with file and evidentiary management, to facilitate communication and generate legal documentation, complying with current regulations and procedures;
  4. Research and summarize the presenting legal issues, applying knowledge of substantive law, to support the legal team;
  5. Apply rules of procedure to support best legal practices;
  6. Conduct oneself professionally in adherence to the guidelines of the Law Society of Upper Canada;
  7. Carry out clerical and administrative duties for the operation of a variety of legal environments;
  8. Outline strategies for ongoing professional development to ensure continuing competence as a Law Clerk;
  9. Act equitably and justly with diverse populations;
  10. Provide support for legal professionals in courts and administrative tribunals within the legal system.

The exact project/Co-op topic and scope will depend on your organization's needs. Student can work on some or all of the aspects mentioned above.
