The purpose of the field placement experience is to give CPA students the opportunity to:

  • Apply the skills and knowledge they learn in the CPA program in an authentic work environment
  • Receive feedback and mentorship from an experienced IT professional
  • Establish and build professional connections in the IT community

Acceptable field placement experiences:

A field placement position/assignment/project must be a practical, quality experience related to the student's program of study and the student must report directly to a supervisor or manager. The work assigned at the placement must allow the student to apply and be evaluated on at least ONE of the IT Skills listed on the Placement Evaluation checklist. All field placements must be approved by the Field Placement Coordinator.

The field placement is 160 hours and is scheduled for April 11th, 2022 to May 6th, 2022.

Résultats et livrables attendus

Student deliverables are based on the projects and tasks assigned by the employer. Employers can have multiple students work as part of the placement.

No compensation is required for students.

Schedule:

  1. Employers will receive applications from students beginning February 11, 2022.
  2. Employers will select candidates for interviews and then contact students to book interviews by February 16th, 2022.
  3. Employers will advise students of their decisions by February 21st, 2022.

Exemples de projets

Students can work on a variety of projects where they apply the following knowledge and skills:

  • Identify, analyze, design, develop, implement, verify and document the requirements for a computing environment
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, document, and monitor technical problems using appropriate methodologies and tools
  • Analyze, design, implement and maintain secure computing environments
  • Analyze, develop and maintain robust computing system solutions through validation testing and industry best practices
  • Gather, analyze and define software system specifications based on functional and non-functional requirements
  • Design, develop, document, implement, maintain and test software systems by using industry-standard software development methodologies based on defined specifications and existing technologies/frameworks
  • Select and apply object-oriented and other design concepts and principles, as well as business requirements, to the software development process
  • Gather requirements and model, design, implement, optimize, and maintain data storage solutions
  • Integrate network communications into software solutions by adhering to protocol standards
  • Demonstrate effective customer service when engaging with clients

Schedule a brief introductory phone call with the instructor and/or other college designate to initiate the relationship and confirm the scope of the project is an appropriate fit for the student’s knowledge and skillset.

Complete and submit all required college health and safety documentation.

Identify and assign an appropriately credentialed and experienced IT professional to supervise, mentor, and evaluate the student.

Complete and submit a student evaluation.
