Students at The International Indigenous Speakers Bureau - IISB will be provided an opportunity to connect and engage with various Indigenous celebrities, leaders, Knowledge Keepers and experts from around the world. This engagement will give the intern a rare opportunity into the world view and perspectives of Indigenous People and their culture. It will also garner the intern an inside view into the untapped Indigenous solutions to our modern day issues and challenges.

The student will be exposed to a variety of skills and experiences to enhance their education and create a meaningful impact on our business, and the lives of our Speakers. Students will learn about our organization and an Indigenous model of business, as well as develop technical, business, and marketing skills. They will also be exposed to a set of experts and speakers beyond any group ever assembled.

At the International Indigenous Speakers Bureau we are a family and want to help our students succeed as much as we want them to help us grow. To facilitate that, we are looking for students who have creative vision, tenacious drive, and the ability to see the best in everything; natural wordsmiths, who thrive at producing and editing creative communications including print, social, and web; and students with enthusiasm and passion for learning and connecting to new experiences.

This Project (or Internship)

As the first International Indigenous Speakers Bureau in the world, we are passionate with assisting an underrepresented demographic of the world in the speaking industry. As such we are always working to improve our current speakers' portfolios to be as marketable and current as possible (you can find some examples on our website).

The goal of this project is two-fold:

1. Familiarize students with speakers on the International Indigenous Speakers Bureau site through the website assessment assignment;

2. To update current speaker web-pages utilizing our existing content and portfolios combined with students' current research.

Level 1 of this project will include:

  • Orientation
  • Cultural Awareness training
  • Review and assess our current speakers' portfolios on the IISB.ca website, via assessment tools provided.
  • Choose a set of speakers (1-3) to focus on improving their portfolios. Use marketing principles.
  • Research speakers online with the goal of finding current information and resources to enhance their marketability.
  • Follow detailed expectations for website content; Referring to 'Website Portfolio Requirements' document

The goal is to have up-to-date marketable portfolio documents and videos for each of the current speakers on our site.

Level 2 of this project will include:

  • Cross-Cultural Communication training: (training specific for communicating with Indigenous people)
  • Connecting and interviewing current speakers for up-to-date portfolio information, etc...
  • Potential interviewing current speakers for articles in magazines and online with partnering media organizations.

**IISB's own Education Director will be available to provide assistance with assessments and direction to students on all projects.
