data analysis constructive feedback social determinants of health communicationMercy University’s Global Health course introduces students to essential health concepts and ethical frameworks that shape healthcare delivery worldwide. These advanced learners will apply their knowledge in data analysis, cultural competency, and ethical healthcare practices to tackle global health issues. Through this experience, students seek to build skills in global health data interpretation, social determinants of health, and comparative healthcare analysis.
Employers are asked to participate in regular communications, provide necessary project information, attend a final virtual presentation, and give constructive feedback to student groups. Engagement in these areas helps ensure students gain practical insights while delivering valuable analyses and recommendations.

Exigances
An ideal project will allow students to analyze or provide recommendations on global health issues, using data and research to inform their insights. Below are example projects suited to the students’ learning goals:
- Global Health Data Analysis: Analyze healthcare outcomes data from a non-U.S. country and provide insights on social determinants influencing health disparities.
- Comparative Health Systems Review: Evaluate a healthcare system outside the U.S. and outline key differences in service delivery, ethical considerations, and accessibility compared to the U.S. system.
- Impact of Vaccination Programs: Research and assess the effectiveness of a country’s vaccination program in addressing communicable diseases, focusing on health outcomes and ethical considerations.
- Global Water Access Assessment: Investigate access to clean water in a specific region, identifying health impacts and proposing solutions to improve access and equity.
- Health Advocacy Strategy Development: Develop a strategy to address a global health issue, such as nutrition or non-communicable diseases, and outline potential advocacy and policy approaches.
- Health Education: Develop educational material and content aimed at promoting health and wellness
Here is an example: Example Global Health Project: Menstrual Health Education and Product Promotion
This project allows students to collaborate with a company (e.g., one that produces menstrual health products) to create culturally sensitive educational materials and marketing strategies for promoting menstrual health and hygiene.
Project Overview
Objective: Improve awareness and access to menstrual health information and products in an underserved community. Students will research menstrual health barriers, design an educational campaign, and develop product promotion strategies for the partner company, focusing on a specific community.
Target Audience: Adolescent girls and young women in the target community (e.g., a rural area or low-resource setting).
Project Phases & Deliverables
- Research and Needs Assessment
- Tasks: Students conduct research on menstrual health challenges in the target community, focusing on cultural perceptions, health misconceptions, and access barriers.
- Deliverables:
- Needs Assessment Report (3-5 pages): A report summarizing key findings from interviews, surveys, or literature on the community’s menstrual health needs.
- Data Presentation: A presentation with visuals (charts, infographics) highlighting data and insights on menstrual health barriers.
- Educational Material Development
- Tasks: Students create culturally relevant educational materials that address menstrual health misconceptions and promote hygiene.
- Deliverables:
- Educational Booklet: A 5-10 page booklet, with sections on menstrual health basics, myths vs. facts, and hygiene practices. It should be accessible and visually engaging.
- Social Media Content Plan: Sample social media posts, graphics, or videos designed to engage young audiences.
- Product Promotion Strategy
- Tasks: Design a strategy for promoting menstrual products in a way that aligns with the community's cultural values and preferences.
- Deliverables:
- Promotion Plan Document (2 pages): A detailed plan for promoting the company's products, including branding messages, distribution strategies, and partnerships.
- Sample Marketing Materials: Flyers, product information sheets, and poster designs that could be used for community outreach.
- Implementation Guide and Sustainability Plan
- Tasks: Develop a guide on how the company can sustain this initiative, possibly with local partners.
- Deliverables:
- Implementation Guide: Step-by-step instructions for company representatives to use the materials and engage with the community.
- Sustainability Proposal: A short proposal for maintaining the campaign long-term, including recommendations for partnerships with local schools or health organizations.
- Final Presentation
- Tasks: Present the project to company stakeholders.
- Deliverables:
- PowerPoint Presentation: A 5-10 slide deck summarizing research findings, deliverables, and strategic recommendations.
- Q&A Session: Students lead a Q&A session to discuss their approach and answer company-specific questions.
Project Outcomes
