Design Thinking - Applied Research - Winter 2025

A group of students will review the business challenges faced by an industry partner or a company regarding their product/service/platform profitability and growth. Students will research to understand the business challenges in greater detail. They will put together a plan to revive the product/service/platform to profitability over 12-18-24 months. Students will use tools they learnt in the course, identify KPIs to measure success and develop a timeline for this execution that they will share with the industry partner or company for their review and use. The team that creates the most applicable solution may have an opportunity to support the execution as an intern for the company. Teams will be allowed to bounce off their initial thoughts and ideas and ask questions to better understand the business challenge at pre-determined intervals.

The project is the focus of a third-year course in which students work in small groups to develop new marketing and business development strategies for a live client. Students will take the information learned throughout their 3- years within the Advanced Marketing Program and apply this knowledge and creativity to help find new opportunities for a selected business.Students focus in on completing competitive analysis, market analysis, developing new product ideas, offering new distribution ideas, and marketing and advertising concepts.

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from Conestoga College to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. This course incorporates skills for effective proposal writing and creating and producing effective client presentations. Students in this program/course will learn how to effectively guide clients and stakeholders through the end to end consulting process.

In today's work environment, a balance of work and personal wellness is critical from both the personal and organizational perspective. The Occupational Health, Safety, and Wellness (OHSW) graduate program provides a focused body of knowledge and skills for individuals interested in developing and building their knowledge and skills in occupational health, safety, and wellness. In teams of 4-5, students from Conestoga College will connect with your organization with the purpose of performing a Health and Safety related consulting assignment or primary research project. The scope and nature of the project can vary widely but it should be related to the highest level critical thinking outcomes listed in the student's course outlines (critical analysis, assess pros and cons, develop a new program or process).
