Engineering Design Project (Microcontrollers)

CPSC 1491

Fév 1, 2025 - Avr 24, 2025

This project-based course is the second in our first-year Engineering Design sequence. In this course, students expand their understanding of engineering design and explore systems comprising electrical, mechanical, and software sub-systems. They apply engineering tools, including CAD tools and microcontroller programs, to create and control physical embodiments of their designs. Students work in teams of 4-5 on projects with specific practical goals using Arduino microcontrollers. These projects require teams to document and present their design solutions, illustrating key aspects using projected slides, engineering graphics, and live demonstrations. Additionally, students learn about sustainability and its impact on engineering design, as well as engineering ethical practices. Students in CPSC 1491 have already completed coursework in programming (C++), engineering drawing, and CAD (SolidWorks). The projects in this course utilize microcontrollers as the central component.

GEOG 2275 - Applied Project - Social / Urban /

GEOG 2275

Jan 7, 2025 - Mai 1, 2025

This class is structured as a single large-group project. Then entire class of students (ranging from 15 - 30) Tackle a single project as a large group. Students are in human/ urban geography and the DASSSH program - Applied Social Sciences and Humanities. The students will collectively create a consultants' report as their final deliverable in the course. Because this is a large-group project this project needs significant scope and capacity. Ideal projects involve addressing a problem or issue related to helping professions, social services, government, and agencies addressing social sustainability. In this class students simulate the creation of a social services agency or consulting firm and take the community partner as a 'client'. Students have a range of skills including a foundation in the social sciences and humanities, as well as foundational skills in accounting, business entrepreneurship, computer skills and computer business applications skills.

Proteomics and Metabolomics Project

BIOL 4415

Jan 14, 2025 - Mai 1, 2025

This course covers the fundamental concepts and applications of protein characterization techniques ("proteomics") as well as how individual and community-wide metabolism are studied ("metabolomics"). Cutting-edge proteomics and metabolomics methods will be applied to real-world datasets and problems to characterize biological systems and explain phenotypes. This course will help prepare students for future work on using, characterizing, and designing novel protein and metabolism-based tools applicable to research and industrial applications. Students taking this course will gain skills for future work designing experiments, analyzing, and integrating data on the proteomes and metabolomes of various biological systems

Engineering Design Project

CPSC 1091

Sep 3, 2024 - Déc 14, 2024

We invite your company to collaborate with our engineering students on an exciting project in the Fall semester. This initiative fosters practical learning for our students and provides your organization with fresh perspectives and innovative solutions. In this class, first year students explore the Engineering design process and develop their ability to use engineering communication tools through individual exercises, labs and a group projects. Working in teams, they examine the technical background of a well-defined problem and use engineering drawing and CAD to design potential solutions. Project Details: Project Commitment:  October 7th & November 25th, 2024. The client will need to attend these days from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on the Langara campus or virtually. Project presentations are on November 27th but attending this is optional for the client. Optional Collaboration:  Should the students and your organization find mutual interest, there is an opportunity for further collaboration on product design. This is entirely at the discretion of both parties. Why Partner with Us?  Our students are eager to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting under your guidance. By participating in this project, you contribute to their professional growth while benefiting from their creativity and dedication.
